The route to becoming a psychologist
First complete a three-year degree majoring in psychology, then an Honours year. To become a clinical, counselling or educational psychologist you then need a Master's degree, an internship and community service before registering with the HPCSA. The BPsych is a separate four-year degree that leads to registration as a registered counsellor.
