UJ applications 2027: closing date, APS and how to apply

UJ has one of the later 2027 closing dates among South African universities, and applying online is free. That makes it a smart backup even if UJ isn't your first choice. UJ does not accept late applications, and the deadline is at midday, not midnight.

How UJ calculates your APS

UJ uses your best six subjects, excluding Life Orientation, on the standard 1–7 scale, so the maximum is 42. Each programme sets its own minimum APS and subject requirements in the UJ 2027 undergraduate prospectus. Meeting the minimum doesn't guarantee a place, because selection is competitive. How to apply to UJ

1. Choose up to two programmes from the UJ 2027 prospectus. You can't change them after you submit.
2. Apply on the official UJ undergraduate application page. Answer "No" if you don't have a student number yet, and write down the PIN you create.
3. Upload your ID and your Grade 11 final results (or matric results if you've finished school).
4. If you need a room, apply for residence by the same 31 October deadline. Admission doesn't guarantee accommodation.
5. Track your status on the UJ student portal.

UJ gives a provisional answer based on your Grade 11 results and confirms it with your final NSC results. UJ states that its online application is free. Avoid anyone who asks you to pay them to submit it.

Funding your studies at UJ

UJ is a public university, so NSFAS can fund qualifying students. NSFAS 2027 applications close on 18 November 2026, so apply for both. Also look at other bursaries.
